Ericka & Devin

4.29.2022 | The Venue at Daisy Hill

How We Met

Ericka and Mallory met through their sorority, AOII, in college. Mallory’s little, Cryssie, actually has the same last name as Ericka’s maiden name and Mallory specifically remembers the moment when Ericka joined AOII Cryssie said “we have the same last name I’m going to befriend her” and Cryssie made that statement a reality! Although Mallory graduated shortly after Ericka joined the sorority, she kept up with Ericka’s life through Cryssie and social media. In April of 2021, Ericka reached out to Marmaros to see if we were available to help in the planning and coordination of her & Devin’s big day. We stayed in communication as they were looking at venues and picking their date, and once they solidified those things we had an April 2022 wedding at Daisy Hill on the calendar!

Love Story

We love hearing how our couples fell in love - especially when it starts in high school! Read how Ericka & Devin went from friends to parents from Ericka's point of view!

"I met Devin when we were freshmen in high school. We had gym class together. He says he tried to talk to me but I was playing hard to get. I was interested in someone else so we began being friends. Over time, our friendship grew and I decided I wanted to give Devin a shot. Devin asked me to be his girlfriend on April 23rd, 2011. Through many ups and downs, one thing remained and that was our friendship. In 2020, we reconnected and the rest was history! Devin wasn’t quite sure how to surprise me with a proposal so his sister-in-law suggested that he do it at her wedding. Devin’s brother threw him the garter and the next thing I know he was down on one knee. We could not wait to make things official. Ten years after becoming boyfriend and girlfriend, we had an intimate elopement with family and our son, Camden. We later decided that we wanted to have a traditional wedding to celebrate our love with family and friends. While wedding planning, life was a little hectic. We were new parents, I started a new job, and Devin was managing his own business. Now looking back on our wedding day, we both agree that it was all worth it."

Down to Business

Once we started the planning process, Ericka and Mallory met in person at Panera to catch up, eat good food, and talk about all things wedding! Ericka was in school right down the road from where Mallory lives, so they met in person for the first few meetings. Once Ericka's semester wrapped up, we switched to virtual meetings, but this didn't change how productive we were! By December of 2021, we did a walkthrough at Daisy Hill where we picked out linens and could envision what the day would look like! Come April of 2022 we were just so ready to send Ericka and Devin (and their son Camden) down the aisle!

The Big Day

Wedding day was finally here! For the ladies, the day started in the beautiful bridal cottage at Daisy Hill where they were enjoying some brunch and mimosas and were getting hair and makeup done by, Intensify by Patience. We arrived at the venue and checked in on the ladies before taking the decorations down to the reception space. While we were working on setting out decorations, Devin and his groomsmen arrived at the venue. Karen with their florist, The Perfect Poppy, and Mike their videographer, with Bethel Weddings, arrived around the same time and we walked them through the venue to show them the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception plans. We went back up to the bridal cottage to check on the girls and all of the bridesmaids were in their dresses anxiously awaiting for their first look of Ericka in her dress! We snuck into the room Ericka was in and saw Pamela, their photographer from, Culture Theory Co, capturing a sweet moment between Ericka and her step mom as gifts and letters were exchanged, and the dress was zipped! Ericka looked unbelievably stunning in her dress by A Formal Occasion! After the bridesmaids got to see Ericka as a bride for the first time, they headed down to the reception space to set Ericka up for her first look with Devin. Prior to the ceremony Pamela knocked out couple portraits, wedding party photos, and some family photos before we pulled everyone inside to rest a little as guests began to arrive!

It was finally time for us to send Ericka and Devin down the aisle to pronounce their love for one another! The wedding party walked down in pairs, and then before Ericka and her dad walked down the aisle Camden was pulled in a wagon by their adorable flower girl. We weren't quite sure how this would work out, but it was perfect and such a cute way to get the little ones down the aisle! After Ericka and Devin sealed their love with a kiss, they walked back down the aisle and guests were invited to the outside patio for a cocktail hour! Guests enjoyed drinks and hors d'oeuvres, like mac and cheese bites (YUM), while Pamela took more family and couple photos.

Guests were invited into the reception space and to kick off the reception we did introductions before Ericka and Devin shared their first dance. Ericka's father took the microphone to welcome all of the guests and bless the food before the buffet by Daisy Hill was opened. Guests enjoyed some barbecue chicken, veggies, and mashed potatoes while they new Mr. and Mrs. mingled with all of the guests who came to celebrate them. Ericka and Devin cut their cake and shared a cupcake, both made by Devin's aunt, before taking their seats to hear toasts from their favorite people.

Before opening up the dance floor, Ericka did a dress change and wow we didn't know we could be so obsessed with two dresses! Ericka and Devin both shared heartfelt dances with their parents and then the dance floor was open for the night. One Night Entertainment kept the dance floor on fire all night long! Towards the end of the night, we did tosses and eventually invited the guests outside for send off. While their guests were lining up, Ericka and Devin shared a private last dance. To wrap up the night, the newlyweds ran through their loved ones who were cheering them on and waving pom-poms and then hopped in a gorgeous vintage convertible and drove off!

Something Spectacular

Something that made Ericka and Devin's day so special and personal was how involved both of their families were. From the details, to the execution of the day, to cleanup their families were fully involved. Sadly, Ericka's mother had passed away before wedding day, but she was there in the details and in spirit. Ericka gave her dad a personalized tie as a gift which included an old picture of them and you could tell by the delivery of that gift and during their dance together how meaningful this day was to them and their father daughter relationship! Devin's grandfather was the person who married them, which we always love to see because when the officiant is someone close to the couple, the ceremony is always so individualized to their relationship. Devin's aunt provided the tasty treats for the reception and they were a hit! Last but not least, we can't forget Camden! Having their son there and involved on their big day was so special to see. It is clear how big a part family is to Ericka and Devin's lives and seeing this in so many ways on wedding day we truly so special!

Raving Reviews

"While planning our wedding, people constantly asked me if I was stressed from planning. My answer was always “no” and I credit that to Marmaros Productions. Mallory and her team were with me every step of the way. She made sure I was on track throughout the process and reminded me of little details I may have forgotten. I had no idea how to plan a wedding so Marmaros was exactly what I needed. We were truly able to enjoy every minute of our wedding day because of Mallory. It was a stress-free beautiful day and I couldn’t have asked for anything more. I would highly recommend Marmaros to all brides!"

Happily Ever After

It was such a joy to reconnect with Ericka and get to know her two loves - Devin and Camden! Wedding planning flew by, but they had the most lovely wedding day. We are sending all the best to these two and cannot wait to see where life takes them! Congrats to Mr. & Mrs. Hughes!
